IAN WHITE

Ian White was born 16.5.56 in Ayr, Scotland and grew up in Ayrshire. His dad was an aircraft engineer and mother a speech therapist. He has one brother, Peter, three years younger. Both boys learned guitar in their teens and played local bars as The White Brothers. Peter still plays for recreation, but earns his living as an oil painting artist.

Church going was not a big part of the White household, and it wasn’t until Ian was 21, and studying for an arts degree at Aberdeen University that he made a deep and lasting commitment to Christ. One of the students met at that time became Ian’s wife., and Ian and Carol celebrate their 23rd anniversary this year.
Ian decided to dedicate all his music talent back to God, and began to gain a reputation locally as a Christian singer. However at that time nothing was materialising financially, and Ian decided perhaps it was right that music would remain just a part of presbyterian parish ministry, which interested him. He applied, and was accepted as a candidate, and returned to Aberdeen University again, and successfully completed a Divinity degree.

However, something happened during the last of those three years that was to upset the applecart again. Up till then, Ian had only been singing other people’s songs. Suddenly, a new creative flow seemed to happen, and Ian found himself able to compose prolifically. He decided to reapply himself to the ancient Psalm lyrics of the Old Testament and found tune after tune just seemed to come, music with a modern feel, but still managing to capture the essence of the lyric’s power. Ian’s music began to gain a following in the Aberdeen area, and by the time he had finished his degree, he was convinced that music after all, was the direction God wanted him to take. Ian was given employment for one year with Scripture Union, as a musical Schools Worker, and then in 1985 he set out on a freelance basis.

18 years later, although Ian has never scaled the heights of fame or record sales to match the big American brigade, he has travelled the world, produced more than 16 albums, and has combined sales from his Scottish based record label, Little Misty Music, of around a quarter of a million units.
Ian and Carol have two boys, Taylor, 10, and Harrison, 8, and live in Perth, Scotland.

They attend the local Presbyterian Church, although Ian’s ministry seems to be accepted across a wide spectrum of worship styles. Ian’s audience is very family based. With three childrens’ albums Ian always includes a children’s section in his concerts. Sometimes he performs concerts just for children.

Ian and Carol’s recording company, Little Misty Music, continues to handle production of the new projects, and distribution to retail outlets in the UK. Recent developments are the establishing of a home studio in Perth, and the setting up of online sales to anywhere in the world, via the website, www.littlemistymusic.com
