On January 26, 2020, I remember seeing the BREAKING NEWS FLASH that Kobe Bryant and his daughter had been tragically killed in a helicopter crash. I am not an avid sports fan but the grief of this hit me. I pondered how, in a matter of moments, a life can suddenly change. Those changes then act as a ripple effect that is felt by everyone who is left behind.
Knowing Christ has not given us a free pass from grief. It does, however, give us a peace card in chaos. Psalm 23:6 describes the goodness and love of God following us all the days of our lives. But what does it look like to be followed by goodness? I am not even talking about favor, but goodness. Goodness can feel like peace and truth. It can feel like quiet and rest. The concept that God is so good that He follows us around to keep putting His goodness on us, is beautiful.
One of my favorite Bible verses is Psalm 27:13 (NKJV), “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Take heart, those of you who are feeling the struggle of a season. Life’s hardships can take our eyes off the goodness of God. Is God still be found good even in the bad? Yes. He is not just good. He is so good!
