For two decades, across various monikers and genres, Brooke Ligertwood has created music directly from the intersection of art and faith.
The “INFINITY” project is a unique and perhaps slightly avant garde contribution to the current landscape of faith music. A blend of the acoustic and analog electronic. Captured live on the run but with specific intentional additions (Ligertwood’s signature vocal production layers) tenderly tucked in during mix to complete the sonic picture.
“INFINITY" (the symbol of which is 8 on its side) runs LIVE through the entirety of Brooke’s album EIGHT from top to bottom, played entirely by two musicians and - appropriate to the application of the title symbol - shows the familiar songs of EIGHT from a completely different musical angle.
Ligertwood covers vocals, acoustic guitar and piano whilst co-producer Ben Tennikoff sits in a musical laboratory a few feet from Brooke, manning everything else - multiple keyboards, drum loops, acoustic percussion, single sustained electric guitar wails and stomps.
Visually the dark depth and “one shot” approach of the much of the cinematography, using light and shade as texture, meets the unpredictability and dynamism of the live capture that makes clear Ligertwood’s passion for the God to whom she sings is the same whether in a room of 60,000 or one.
Says Ligertwood of the project, “whilst the songs of EIGHT will always primarily exist to be of service to the church and usable in any congregational context, there’s also something to be said for a take on some of these songs that approaches them in an unexpected way, for art’s sake. INFINITY is that take. These declarations may resonate with some people in this alternative sonic expression rather than their original form, so if INFINITY can quietly serve at this juncture, what a joy!"
